Obituary of Carol Reese

Carol L. Reese, 64, of 1115 Pickard Street, Iowa City died at her home Monday, March 31, 2008, following a courageous battle with cancer. Her two children were by her side. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 4, 2008, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City with the Reverend Tim Zimmerman officiating. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 4 to 7pm Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial donations can be made in Carol’s memory to the Gynecologic Oncology Group or to the Iowa City Community Theatre. Online condolences may be sent to her family through the web at www.gayandciha.com. Carol Lynn Schneberger Reese was born July 11, 1943, in Richmond, VA, the daughter of Dr. Cletus J. and Ruby H. (Sapp) Schneberger. She was raised in Clinton, Iowa where she graduated from high school in 1961. She then moved to Iowa City and attended The University of Iowa where she received her BA degree in Spanish and English Literature. She married Gerald L. Reese on August 20, 1971. They were later divorced. She worked in the Business Office at The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for a number of years before her children were born. After raising them, she returned to work as an aide in the Iowa City Community School District. In 1994 she began working as a Research Assistant for the Agricultural Health Study through the College of Public Health at the Oakdale Campus of The University of Iowa. She continued working there until declining health forced her retirement in 2007. Carol loved life, family, and her many friends. Her gentle, caring nature and infectious smile were cherished by all who knew her. She enjoyed cooking, reading, and watching old movies. Carol was a long-time supporter of the Iowa City Community Theatre, and an active member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church since 1978. Her family includes her two children, Bill Reese of Iowa City, and Becky Reese of St. Louis, MO; her brother, Steve Schneberger of Iowa City; and her beloved aunts and cousins.
