Obituary of William A. Freeman
William A. Freeman 85, of Iowa City, died Friday, November 16, 2007, at his home of an extended illness. Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 20, 2007 (Bill and Jeannes 64th wedding anniversary) at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service of Iowa City with Chaplain Maurie Campbell officiating. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until time of service. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Bills memory to Iowa City Hospice. Online condolences may be sent for his family through our website at www.gayandciha.com. Bill was born May 7, 1922 in Shellsburg, Iowa the son of Glenn Homer and Leone (Montgomery) Freeman he graduated from Clarence High School in 1940. After high school he joined the United States Navy. While in the Navy he met his wife to be Jeanne and they were married November 20, 1943 in Norfolk, VA. In Bills younger days he was a member of the American Legion, Coralville Volunteer Fire Department, and Coralville City Council. He worked for the University of Iowa as a Locksmith for 16 years until 1967 when he started his own company Freeman Locksmith and Door Closer Inc. Bill operated the business until retirement in 1985. Bill enjoyed fishing, traveling, and playing cards. His family includes wife Jeanne of Iowa City; son Bill (Millie) Freeman of Iowa City; daughter Sheree Wenman (Jordy Conger) of Iowa City; granddaughters Michell Freeman-Crow (Rick Crow), Jeni Freeman (Rene Zuniga), Chelsea Wenman ( Paul Thompson), Shannon (Andy) Freeman-Turnbull the daughter of David Freeman; grandsons Courtney (Alex) Wenman, Cody Wenman; six great-grandchildren; sisters Marie, Margaret, Arlene; brother Glenn; and many loving nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by his parents; son David Freeman; two brothers Claire, Jerry; and one sister Mardy . Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service is caring for Bills family and his services.
