Obituary of Patrick Eugene Downes

Patrick E. Downes, 44 of Oxford passed away suddenly on Monday, May 07, 2007 from an apparent heart complication. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, May 10, 2007, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Oxford, with the Reverend Edmond Dunn officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7pm Wednesday at the church where a parish vigil service will be held at 7pm. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in his memory. He grew up in the Oxford area, graduating from Clear Creek High School in 1981, and then he attended Kirkwood Community College. He worked various jobs throughout his lifetime, including carpentry and farming. Pat had a heart of gold and was a hard worker,; always willing to help out when it came to rounding up cattle, or working in the fields. Pat enjoyed life, especially fishing, but closest to his heart were his nieces, nephews and friends. His family includes his parents, Emma Lou and Lawrence Downes of Afton, IA; brother, Michael Downes and his wife, May Kay, sisters, Julie Lang of Denver, CO, Genette Fox and Mark Campbell of North Liberty, and Dana Huffman and her husband, Rowdy of Marengo; nieces and nephews, Shelly Miller, David Fox, Cassie Downes, Evan Downes, and Coen Huffman; and Pat’s grandmother, Helen Wegmuller. He was preceded in death by his birth father, Eugene Evans; grandparents, A.E. Wegmuller, John and Geraldine Downes.
