Obituary of Harold Larew

Harold “Hal” Larew, 76 of Iowa City died Friday, February 16, 2007, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 20, 2007, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City followed by a reception that will be held at the funeral home. Family burial services will be held at a later date at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7pm Monday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Hal’s memory to the Iowa Writer’s Workshop or to the charity of your choice. Online condolences may be sent for his family through our website @www.gayandciha.com. Hal was born June 2, 1930, in North Liberty, Iowa, the son of White and Vera C. (Kelly) Larew. He served in the United States Marines during the Korean Conflict. For many years he lived in Washington State and Oregon before returning to Iowa in 2006, following the death of his wife. His family includes his six children, Cynthia (Mitchell) Kaelber of St. Augustine, FL; Harold Dean (Cynthia) Larew of Lone Tree, IA; Sandra (Philip) Kemp of Riverside, IA; John (Rita) Larew of Iowa City; David (Christina) Larew of Everett, WA; and Jason Rimrodt of Hiawatha, IA; sister, Grace (Richard) Young of North Liberty, IA; several grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Alice Whiteley-Larew and his brother, Scott Larew. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service is caring for Hal’s family and his services.
