Obituary of Sylvia Mae Adams

Sylvia Mae Adams, age 61 of Great Bend, Kansas formerly of Oxford, IA died Thursday December 28, 2006, at Hospice of Reno County in Hutchinson, KS. Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, January 6, 2007, at the Oxford United Methodist Church in Oxford, Iowa with the Reverend Diane Townsley officiating. Burial will be at the Oxford Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12 noon until services on Saturday. Memorials may be made out to the family of Sylvia Adams or C.K.M.C. Foundation for the benefit of Heartland Cancer Center in care of the funeral home. Online condolences may be sent for her family to www.gayandciha.com. Sylvia Mae Adams was born November 19, 1945, in Iowa City, Iowa the daughter of John A. Kahler Sr. and Bernice Reynolds Kahler. She graduated from Oxford High School, and had attended Kirkwook Community College in Cedar Rapids. On January 11, 1964 she married Paul Marvin Adams in Moline, IL. During the 1970’s and early 1980’s she and her husband, Paul owned and operated Paul’s DX Station in Oxford. In 1981 they moved to Great Bend, Kansas, there she was an assisted living care provider for Rosewood Services and also a cook for the American Legion. Sylvia was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Great Bend, KS. Sylvia was always the care giver, always smiling. She loved hunting with husband Paul, as well as gardening, being outdoors, traveling, sewing, canning, doing crafts and riding motorcycles. She was an all around handy woman and most of all enjoyed family and friends. Rest in peace with our love. Her family includes her mother Bernice Kahler of Oxford, two sons, Andrew Paul Adams of Williamsburg and David John Adams of Great Bend,KS; daughter Christine Marie Saindon of Great Bend,KS; brother, John L. Kahler, Jr. of Tiffin; two sisters, Naomi Nearad of Swisher and Arlene Gerard, of North Liberty; three grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and numerous nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death her, husband, Paul; father, John A. Kahler, Sr.; sister, Janet Prymek; son-in-law, Loren Saindon; and daughter-in-law, Rocheal VanNatta. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service of Oxford is caring for Sylvia’s family and her services.
