Obituary of Cheryl Stewart

Long-time resident of the Tulsa area, Cheryl Stewart, age 43 of 5 Hummingbird Lane, Iowa City died Monday, October 9, 2006 at home. Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, October 14, 2006, at Open Bible Fellowship in Tulsa with the Reverend Gene Leutzinger officiating. Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. until services on Saturday and following the services at graveside. A memorial fund has been established in Cheryl’s memory. Online condolences may be sent for her family through our website @www.gayandciha.com. Cheryl Annette Pierce was born October 12, 1962, in Borger, TX, the daughter of James and Joan Pierce. She had lived in a number of places in Oklahoma, Illinois, Texas and Pennsylvania before moving to Iowa City in 2001, shortly after her marriage to Paul D. Stewart, in order to be part of the Open Bible plant, Journey Church. Her family includes her husband, Paul; son, Christopher Weems of Bixby; daughter, Jessica Weems of Bixby; mother, Joan Pierce of Albuquerque, NM; father, Jim Pierce of Dallas, TX; brother, Ken Pierce of Dallas, TX. Cheryl loved chocolate cake and chocolate chip cookies (for that matter, anything chocolate), pizza, and Mexican food (the spicier the better). One of her favorite meals was chips and salsa. She loved teddy bears and cats, and also had a warm place for dogs. She greatly enjoyed mystery stories, whether book, TV, or movie. She could dress up well, but was most comfortable in jeans or sweatpants. She enjoyed quiet and fast music, instrumental music and music that she could sing to, as well as classical and jazz (especially saxophone music). Cheryl hated to be late. She worked hard to keep things in order and to do things right. Cheryl was gentle, sensitive, and tender-hearted, but still disciplined and self-controlled (except when it came to cookies and mint hot chocolate and a few other such things). She was reliable, faithful, conscientious, and persistent. Employers more than got their money’s worth from her. Cheryl loved children and teaching. She was a private person, somewhat reserved, but she loved to laugh. Most of all, Cheryl loved God and she loved to worship Him and her favorite place to be is in His presence. She was an intercessor and had quite a sensitive spirit. John 3:16, Psalm 1, James 3, Psalm 119:11 & 105, and I Cor. 13 are all scriptures that Cheryl once listed as having a profound effect on her.
