Obituary of Joseph J. Leonard
Joseph J. Leonard, age 37 of Coralville died Sunday, March 12, 2006, from injuries sustained in a fire at his home. A gathering of family and friends will take place from 5 to 7pm Thursday, March 16, 2006, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Joes memory. Online condolences may be sent for his family through our website @www.gayandciha.com. Joseph James Leonard was born July 14, 1968, in Iowa City, Iowa the son of James B. and Judith J. (Fox) Leonard. He attended Iowa City schools graduating from City High School in 1986. Shortly after graduation he enlisted in the United States Army, serving three years. Returning to Iowa City he was employed by the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, first as a nursing assistant, and later for the past five years working in Central Sterilization. Joe enjoyed life, from cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes in football, wrestling, and basketball, year after year supporting the Chicago Cubs, and the outdoors where he liked to go mushrooming, and fishing. As a young man he played guitar, and was known to be pretty good at this. He enjoyed being on the computer, playing video games with his family and friends. His family includes his parents, Jim and Judy Leonard of Iowa City; sister and her husband, Jenny and Doug Griffin of Lone Tree; niece and nephews, Liz, Ty and Devon; Joes grandmother, Margaret Leonard of Osage, IA; and numerous Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service is caring for Joes family and his services.
