Obituary of Richard Fountain
Richard H. Dick Fountain, 79 of rural Iowa City, longtime Johnson County area farmer died Thursday, June 16, 2005, at Iowa City Health Care and Rehabilitation Center in Iowa City. Funeral services will be held at 7pm Monday, June 20, 2005, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City with the Reverend Judy Gingerich officiating. Private family burial services will take place on Tuesday at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. There will be visitation on Monday after 4pm until the services at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Dicks memory to Iowa City Hospice. Online condolences may be sent for Dicks family through our website @www.gayandciha.com. Richard Henry Fountain was born on July 4, 1925, on the family farm south of Iowa City, the son of Russell and Helen (Avery) Fountain. He graduated from Iowa City City High School. On May 20, 1948, he married Dorothy Black in Iowa City. He has been a farmer since the day he was born, to the day he died, his love of the land, and caring for it has been his passion. Dick enjoyed playing cards, loved the outdoors, raising flowers, hunting, fishing, and working the farm, he was also known to be very good at fixing anything that was mechanical. His family includes his wife, Dorothy; daughter, Cory Bauwens and her husband, Michael of Iowa City; grandchildren, Melena Hicks and her husband, Travis, Joseph Bauwens, Josh Bauwens, Jacob Bauwens and his wife, Kacey, and Jon Bauwens; great-grandchildren, Alicia Hicks, Tony Bauwens, Savannah Platts, Stormy Bauwens, Ethan Hicks, and Nathan Bauwens; sister, Marian Plecker of Iowa City. Dick was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Craig Fountain,a brother in infancy, Russell; and a brother-in-law, Lloyd Plecker.
