Obituary of Dorothy Mae Hughes
Dorothy Mae Hughes, age 85 formerly of 1026 East Fairchild Street, Iowa City died Monday, January 31, 2005, at Windmill Manor in Coralville. Graveside Services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, February 3, 2005, at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City with the Sister Agnes Giblin and Reverend Judy Gingerich officiating. Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. Thursday until services at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Dorothys memory. Dorothy was born February 17, 1919, in rural Johnson County, Iowa the daughter of John and Florence (Derue) Baker. She attended St. Patricks Catholic School in Iowa City. On May 31, 1941, she married Perry Edwin Hughes in Kahoka, Missouri. For many years she worked in the dietary department at Mercy Hospital, retiring in 1982. She was a member of St. Marys Catholic Church in Iowa City, former member of the Women of the Moose. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, and reading a good book. Her family includes daughters, Dayle Tucker of Iowa City; Mary Voss of El Paso, TX, Barbara Richards of Minnetonka, MN, and Terri Miller and her husband, Roger of Iowa City; two sons, John Hughes and his wife, Stacey of Houston, TX, and William Hughes of Eden Prairie, MN; eleven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Perry on April 7, 1989; an infant daughter, Susan Hughes; two sisters, one brother, and a son-in-law, Bill Tucker.
