Obituary of Virginia Buechler
Virginia (Thurlow) Buechler, 89 formerly of Iowa City went to be with her Lord, parents, husband and son on Monday, May 24, 2010, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law in Sanger, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 29, 2010, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City, with burial at the Oakland Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m., Friday at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established in her memory to remember her care takers in her last days. Online condolences may be sent through the web @ www.gayandciha.com. Memorial services will be held at a later date in Denton, Texas. Virginia Pauline Thurlow was born April 20, 1921, in Leslie, Iowa the daughter of Eddie C. and Frances M. (Sutton) Thurlow. Following graduation from LeRoy High School, she attended and received her B.A. Degree from Simpson College. On January 25, 1942, she was united in marriage to George A. Buechler in Indianola, Iowa. For a number of years she taught and coached girls basketball in the Prescott Consolidated School District. After moving to the Iowa City area she worked at the University of Iowa Hospital School for Handicapped Children. In college she was the May Queen at Simpson and also Sweetheart Attendant. She was a member of the Coralville United Methodist Church, Goodwill Industries Auxiliary Chairperson, Easter Seal Society, Republican Women, P.E.O., and the Delta Delta Delta Sorority. She has always enjoyed playing bridge, golfing, sewing, painting and loving her 14 grandkitties! Her family includes her daughter and son-in-law, Gaynel and John Burch of Sanger, TX. Virginia was preceeded in death by her parents, husband, and son, Alan Linn Buechler. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service is caring for Virginias family and her services.
