Obituary of Robert L. Bender

Robert L. “Bob” Bender, age 58 of rural Parnell died Monday, September 13, 2004, at his home from injuries sustained in an early morning house fire. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Monday, September 20, 2004, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City where a time of sharing memories will be held at 7pm. Robert Lee Bender was born September 21, 1945, in Iowa City the son of Lloyd E. and Loretta E. (Yoder) Bender. He graduated from IMS School, and for a number of years worked for Winebrenner Ford in Iowa City, and for many years now has been employed at Fountain Transmission in Iowa City. Bob has been an avid racecar fan, early on as a driver, and in recent yeas as a spectator in the stands, driving all across the country for a good race. His family and friends will remember his passion for grilling out, and most of all his love for cars, working on them day and night, not because of his job, but it has been a lifelong passion. His family includes two brothers and their wives, Larry and Jan Bender of Des Moines and their children, E.J. and his wife, Karen Bender, and Page Bender; and Lloyd and Becky Bender of Iowa City; and their children, Scott, Beth, Courtney, Laura, Melissa, Christina, and Holliday Bender; great nieces and nephews, Joel, Lillian and Emily Bender.
