Obituary of Alford Collins

Alford Lee Collins, age 71 formerly of Iowa City died Tuesday in Terra Haute, IN following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m., Sunday, August 8, 2004, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service of Iowa City. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 pm Saturday at the funeral home. Alford L. Collins was born February 23, 1933 in Lebanon, Illinois, the son of Alford L. Collins Sr. and Bethaline Kathleen Oaks Collins. He married Lulabell M. Whipple August 16, 1954 in St. Louis, MO. For most of his life, he has been self-employed in the asphalt paving business. His family includes sons, Alford Collins and his wife, Alice of Knox, IN, Rickie Collins, Gary Collins and his wife, Diane, Paul Collins and his wife, Lynette, and Dennis Collins and his wife, Alice Jean all of Terre Haute, IN; daughters, Thelma Dezit and her husband, Bob of Marshall, Il, Beatrice Schweigen and her husband, John of Toole, UT, Shelly Reed and her husband, Jerry of Grand Junction, CO, and Victoria Collins of Terre Haute, IN; 32 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, brother, Virgil Collins of Kankakee, IL; and sister, Barbara Prairie of Joliet, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Lulabell, granddaughter, 3 brothers and 2 sisters. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service is caring for Alford’s family and services.
