Obituary of Anna B. Grace Hunter

Anna Grace Hunter, age 85 of Iowa City, formerly of Oxford died Tuesday, August 3, 2004, at the Lantern Park Care and Rehab Center in Coralville following a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, August 9, 2004 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Oxford with the Reverend Charles Adam and Deacon David Montgomery officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery near Oxford. Visitation will be from 2 to 6pm Sunday at the church where a parish rosary and vigil services will be held at 5:30pm. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in her memory. Online condolences may be sent for Anna’s family through our website @www.gayandciha.com. Anna B. Mahoney was born September 9, 1918 in rural Johnson County, Iowa the daughter of Robert and Annie (Kutcher) Mahoney. Following graduation from Oxford High School in 1936, she married Gerald E. Grace September 26, 1938, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Oxford. For a number of years Anna worked at the University of Iowa Hospitals, and later retired from NCS. Gerald died February 2, 1975. She married Donald P. Hunter May 23, 1986 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Oxford. Following their marriage, the couple moved to Iowa City where they lived at 423 second. Avenue. Donald died March 9, 2001. Anna moved to Lantern Park Care Center this past year. She was a lifetime member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Oxford, where she belonged to the Altar & Rosary Society; she was also a member of the National Catholic Society of Foresters. Her family includes two daughters, Judy Cochran of Oxford, and Virginia Meade and her husband, Laverne “Butch” of Oxford; two sons and their wives, Don and Nancy Grace of Shellsburg, Iowa and Ted and Rose Grace of Tiffin; twelve grandchildren, Chris Cochran, Chuck Cochran, Sandy Doyle, Tom Cochran, Rhonda McNeal, Jarret Meade, Brett Meade, Shauna Steinbrech, Brandon Meade, Katie Grace, Stacey Decker, and Kellie Tuttle; and seventeen great-grandchildren. Anna was preceded in death by her husbands, granddaughter, Joan Grace, son-in-law, Bob Cochran; seven sisters and one brother.
