Obituary of James Kennedy

Dr. James F. Kennedy, 73 of 701 Oaknoll Drive, Iowa City died Thursday, July 15, 2004 at Oaknoll Retirement Residence. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 20, 2004, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Iowa City with family burial services to be held at Oakland Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 4 to 7pm Monday at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. In lieu of flowers his family request that memorial donations can be made to Parkinson Disease Research Foundation. Dr. Kennedy was born January 16, 1931 in Ames, Iowa the son of Edwin N. and Alberta (Davis) Kennedy. He graduated from Charles City High School with the class of 1948, and from the University of Iowa Dental College. During the Korean Conflict, he served as a fighter pilot. He later was an Air Force instructor in Mississippi. As an endodontist, Dr. Kennedy had worked in Clinton, Iowa and for over twenty-five years served patients in Cedar Rapids, Mt. Pleasant and Charles City. Dr. Kennedy served on the faculty of the University of Iowa School of Dentistry for over a quarter century and retired several years ago due to the effects of Parkinson’s disease. His family includes a sister, Joyce Ann Gilts of Walbridge, OH; a brother, Joseph D. Kennedy and thirteen nieces and nephews.
