Obituary of Alice Hooten

Her family includes her daughter Kathryn Plettenberg, one grandson: Scot Plettenberg both of Iowa City one granddaughter: Lee Plettenberg of Louisville, KY., one brother Robert W. and wife Dorothy Stevens of Iowa City. Her parents, step father, husband and two brothers preceded her in death. Alice was born on October 30, 1908 in Iowa City the daughter of Elias M. and Kathryn Fieseler Stevens. After her father died at a young age her mother married Harrison Orr who adopted her family. Alice graduated from Iowa City, City High School in 1926 and the University of Iowa with a Bachelor’s Degree in Home Economics in 1930. For one year she taught high school in Milton, Iowa and then Baltimore MD. for 38 years. In 1945 she married Henry C. Hooten in Baltimore. Alice taught in Baltimore until her retirement when she moved back to Iowa City. She was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, the East Lucas Club and a life member of the University Of Iowa Alumni Association.; she enjoyed bingo, playing cards, traveling and her family. Memorials may be given to Parkview Manor in Wellman.
