Obituary of Shane Thompson

Shane “Rick” Thompson, 63, of Tiffin died suddenly Tuesday, September 28, 2010, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, October 1, 2010, at the Grace United Methodist Church in Tiffin, with burial at the Oakland Cemetery in Iowa City to follow. Visitation will be prior to the services beginning at 11:00 a.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in his memory. Online condolences may be sent for his family through the web @ www.gayandciha.com. Shane was born November 10, 1946, in Iowa City the son of Geraldine (Douglass) Coblentz. He attended schools in Iowa City where he graduated from City High School. For many years now he was known in the area as a furniture builder and one of the support persons for the bands his brother, Rodney was involved with. His family includes his wife, Grace; mother, Jerry Coblentz of Tiffin; son, Michael Thompson (Shawna Melancon)of Tiffin; granddaughter, Ava Jo Elizabeth Thompson; siblings, Arlene (Buzz) Coblentz of Riverside, Hellen Coblentz of Coralville, Rodney Thompson of Coralville, and David Thompson of Arizona, Katie Miller of Central City, IA, Everett Coblentz of Iowa City, Dorothy Veseley of Iowa City, Shirley Coblentz of Illinois. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Mary Ellen Madden and Esther Coblentz; and brothers, Amos, Ralph, Lloyd, Danny, and DeWayne.
