Obituary of Kenneth E. Moeller

Kenneth E. Moeller, 75, of Iowa City, died Saturday, September 25, 2010, at the Solon Nursing and Care Center. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, September 29, 2010, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Iowa City with Reverend Brent Hartwig officiating. Visitation will be from 4-7 Tuesday at the Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service. Burial will take place at 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Fairbank Cemetery, Fairbank, Iowa. Memorials may be made to the Kenneth Moeller Memorial Fund. Online condolences may be sent to Ken’s family through the web @www.gayandciha.com. Kenneth E. Moeller was born October 17, 1934, in rural Bremer County; son of Herman and Lydia (Matthias) Moeller. He graduated from Oran High School in 1952, and went on to attend Wartburg College and the University of South Dakota where he earned his Masters. In June of 1961, Ken married Marlene Kimball in Fairbank, Iowa. Years later they moved to rural Solon where Ken continued his career in teaching. He taught in the Iowa City School District for 24 years, retiring in 1993, ending a teaching career of 37 years. While teaching, Ken also farmed the family farm in Northeast Iowa. He enjoyed the time he spent on his tractor and the satisfaction he got from sharing his home grown vegetables with neighbors. Ken knew what was important in life and cherished any time spent with family and friends. His family includes his wife; Marlene, daughters; Janine (Kevin) Thomas of Freeport, IL, Julie (Joe) Breza of Solon, IA, Jill Richards of Waynesville, OH, June (Sean) Schneckloth of Ottumwa, IA, son; Jeff Moeller of Spring Grove, IL, and grandchildren; Zachary, Emily (Josh Epling) and Mackenzie Thomas, Kristin, Kaitlyn and Melanie Breza, Nathaniel, Jonathan and Hayley Richards, Sydney, Curtis and Chloe Schneckloth, Luke and Tori Moeller and great-grandchild Gwen Epling, brothers; Dr. Ronald Moeller and D.J. Moeller, sisters; Lois Heineman and Darlene Tiedt, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother; Leon Moeller and sister; Verla Kane.
