Obituary of Robert D. Whetstine

Robert Dean Whetstine, 75, of Iowa City, died September 9, 2010. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, September 13, 2010, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Iowa City. A visitation will be held from 4-6 p.m., Sunday at the Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Memorial contributions may be made in Bob’s name to Iowa City Hospice. Online condolences may be sent to Bob’s family through the web @ww.gayandciha.com. Robert was born in Daytonville, Iowa, on May 5th, 1935; son of Russell and Evelyn Whetstine. On August 25th, 1954 Bob married Evelyn May Kolstad in North Liberty, Iowa. He worked for Iowa Illinois Gas and Electric Company for 35 years and Our Redeemer Lutheran Church part-time for 37 years. Bob enjoyed being with his family and friends, his family pet, meeting with the coffee club, the outdoors, vacationing in the mountains of Colorado, and gardening. Bob was a loving husband, father and grandfather. His family includes his wife; Evelyn Whetstine, four children; Cheryl and Craig Manary of Iowa City, Ron and Nancy Whetstine of North Liberty, Deb and Tracy Klein of Solon, and Terri and Tony Mullink of Iowa City as well as seven grandchildren. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City is caring for Bob’s family and his services.
