Obituary of Alice Fern Conner Ostrander

Alice F. Ostrander, 97 formerly of Iowa City died peacefully Monday, August 24, 2009, at Solon Nursing Care Center. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 29, 2009, at the First United Methodist Church in Iowa City, with the Reverend Paul Akin officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Sylvania, OH. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the church, with a reception and luncheon following the services at the church. (Sunday parking ordinance will be in effect for the streets around the church) Memorial donations can be made in Alice’s memory to First United Methodist Church, Iowa City Hospice, Iowa City Senior Center or to the charity of the donor’s choice. Online condolences may be sent for her family through the web @ www.gayandciha.com. Alice Fern Connor was born December 12, 1911, in Tiffin, Ohio the daughter of Charles and Nannie (Furr) Conner. She married Harry R. Ostrander Sr. on November 14, 1930. Harry died in 1968. In 1970 she married Arthur Franz who died in 1995. Alice’s family includes her five children, John “Jack” Ostrander (Shirley) of Vero Beach, FL, Nancy Tyner (James) of Clermont, FL, Darlene Hollister of Las Vegas, NV, Harry Ostrander (Christine) of Coralville, and Rolland Ostrander (Vera) of Solon; 17 grandchildren, and 28 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husbands, and grandson, Joel Tyner. We learned much from our mother, but most precious to her were her love of our Lord and the importance of family. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Iowa City. Alice’s family wishes to thank the staff at Solon Care Center for their loving care of our mother and grandmother.
