Obituary of David C. Alton
David C. Alton of Coralville died Friday, July 3, 2009, after a long illness. He received loving care for many months in ICU at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. Celebration of his life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 11, 2009, at Zion Lutheran Church in Iowa City with the Reverend Jan Rippentrop officiating. The family will be present to greet friends at 10 a.m. Saturday and during the reception following the service at the church. In lieu of flowers memorial donations will be given in Daves memory to Arbor Day Foundations Memorial Tree Planting. Online condolences may be sent for his family through the web @ www.gayandciha.com. David Charles Alton was born May 27, 1947, in Iowa City, the son of Margaret (Schrock) Alton and Everett Alton. He was a 1965 graduate of City High in Iowa City. He was an Army veteran serving his country in Germany during the Vietnam War. Dave worked as a lineman with MidAmerican Energy (fka Iowa Illinois Gas & Electric) for 35 years. Special thanks to the electric crew at MidAmerican for all their support. Dave married Ann Elliott (Kimball) Alton on August 14, 1993 in Kent Park with Anns Uncle Roy Ives officiating. Dave enjoyed all nature which included canoeing in the Boundary Waters, camping and hiking. They enjoyed ballroom dancing. His family includes his wife, Ann of Coralville; son, Todd (Elissa Roggeveen) of Iowa City; step-son, Scott Kimball (Sylvia) of Las Vegas, NV; mother, Margaret Alton Herr of Iowa City; father, Everett Alton (Dee) of Plainwell, MI; mother-in-law, Zoe E. Nichols of Des Moines; sister, Carol Kefalas (Bob Schuett) of Conesville; brother-in-law, Brian Nichols (Linda) of Denton, TX; grandchildren, Angelica, Giselle, and Cody Kimball; and special nephew, Paris Kefalas. He was preceded in death by his infant granddaughter, Addison Roggeveen Alton; brother-in-law, David E. Nichols; step-father, King Herr, and grandparents, Emmy and Elmer Schrock.
