Obituary of Gloria Faye Peters

On a very cold windy day in December, a wonderfully warm hearted G. Faye Peters died peacefully after a long battle with cancer. Gloria “Faye” Peters, 75 of Coralville died Monday, December 29, 2008. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 3, 2009. at the Coralville United Methodist Church with the Reverend Doug Williams officiating. Burial will be at the St. Joseph Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 pm Friday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in her memory to the Coralville Public Library or Coralville United Methodist Church c/o Missions for the food pantry. Online condolences may be sent for her family through the web at www.gayandciha.com Gloria “Faye” Druse Peters was born to Virginia and Elmer Druse of Letcher South Dakota on February 17, 1933 in Mitchell, South Dakota. She grew up in Letcher, South Dakota where she graduated from Letcher High School. She married her high school sweetheart Franklin B. Peters on June 16, 1951 in Letcher. The couple moved to Coralville, Iowa in 1954 where her husband Frank worked for the Rock Island Railroad, eventually retiring from Allstate Insurance Company. Faye was an active member of the Coralville United Methodist Church. She was a past President of the United Methodist Women and served on various committees. She also was the Church Women United of Johnson County representative serving on the Nominations Committee. She was one of the chief instigators to help start the first Coralville Public Library on September 13, 1965 in the basement of the Town Hall, also the second library, which opened March 1986. She served as President of the Board of Trustees and was past President of “Friends of the Coralville Public Library” where she still volunteered for book sales. She was on the committee to build Coralville’s first swimming pool in 1967, as well as the indoor pool and the new Coralville Aquatic Center. In her younger years, Faye was a Brownie Leader, Cub Scout Leader, Block Mother, and PTA member while her children were growing up. Her richest joy in life was her husband, Frank, who meant everything to her, her three children and six grandchildren. Faye enjoyed many things during her life, snow skiing in Colorado and riding on their pontoon at Lake Delhi. She was an avid Hawkeye fan and retired from the University of Iowa College of Dentistry on January, 1991 as a clinic clerk. She was constantly kind and helpful to all and enjoyed helping at the Free Lunch Program in the Wesley House after retirement. She had a special group of Friends for over 35 years calling themselves, The Birthday Group. Her family includes her husband, Frank; daughter, Diane Meyer (Robert) of Coralville; grandson, Nicholas J. Anderson; daughter, Holly Flaucher of Coralville; grandchildren, Erin Flaucher, Abby Flaucher and Brian Flaucher of Marysville, Washington; son, Richard Dean Peters (Maureen) and grandchildren, Matthew and Sarah Peters of Tucson, Arizona; sister, Gerry Printup (Michael Lambert) of Phoenix, Arizona; brother, Rodney Druse (Beverly) of Minot, North Dakota; sister-in-law, Maryana Jones of Boise, Idaho; and nine nieces and nephews. Faye was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Mary Jane Druse and Barbara Newman, brothers-in-law, Timothy Printup, Richard Jones and Lloyd Newman, and son-in-law, James L. Anderson.
