Obituary of Paul T. Harper
Paul T. Harper of Wellman, formerly of Iowa City died Monday, October 20, 2008, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Iowa City following an extended illness. Memorial services will be held at 6pm Thursday, October 23, 2008, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City, where visitation will be one hour prior to the services and following the service. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in his memory to Disabled American Veterans. Online condolences may be sent for his family through the web @ www.gayandciha.com. Paul was born October 3, 1939, in Iowa City the son of Paul E. and Margaret (Sakulin) Harper. He attended Iowa City City High School where he graduated with the class of 1960. Following graduation he served his country in the Armys 4th. Battalion during Police Action following the Korean Conflict. Having completed his military service, Paul was honorably discharged and returned to Iowa City where he worked as a house painter for various painting contractors in the Iowa City area, including Burkett and Krotz. His last 20 years of employment was in the maintenance department with the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Paul was a past member of VFW Chapter 3949 in Iowa City, and the Eagles Club of Iowa City where he loved to dance. He was married to Carol Chase of Iowa City, and fathered two children during their marriage. His family includes daughter, Paula Johnson of Maryville, IL; son, Paul T. Harper Jr. of Coralville; and daughter, Angela who was born during Pauls second marriage to Ethel Harper of Missouri. He will be missed by the compassionate staff of Parkview Manor in Wellman, Iowa who cared for him for many years. Paul was preceded in death by his parents, brother, John Harper, and partner, Lois Acres. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service is caring for Pauls family and his services.
