Obituary of Irvin E. Kondora

Irvin E. “Short” Kondora of 3222 Friendship Street, Iowa City died Thursday, September 11, 2008, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 17, 2008, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Burial with military honors will take place at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7pm Tuesday at the funeral home. Kondora was born November 24, 1935, in Iowa City the son of Albert and Julia (Connell) Kondora. He graduated from Iowa City City High School prior to his military service in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. For many years he owned and operated Kondora Concrete. After selling his interest in the business he worked for Triple A Security for a number of years before his retirement this past year. For many years he and his wife Patricia wintered in Arizona, and enjoyed their travels across the United States. He was a member of the American Legion. His family includes his daughter, Marti Vermace and her husband, Randy of Iowa City; grandchildren, Casey Kacina, Jolene Raab and her husband, Adam, Megan Vermace and Heather Vermace all of Iowa City; sister, Alberta Peterson and her husband, Pete of Charleston, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Patricia in July of 2007, and a brother, Dale “Bud” Kondora.
