Obituary of Dorothy A. Files

Dorothy A. Files, 82 of Tiffin died Sunday, August 17, 2008, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 21, 2008, at the Grace United Methodist Church in Tiffin, with burial at Oak Hill Cemetery near Tiffin. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 pm Wednesday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Dorothy’s memory to Iowa City Hospice. Online condolences may be sent for her family through the web @ www.gayandciha.com. Dorothy Alice Carson was born September 13, 1925, in Iowa City the daughter of Hugh and Genevieve (Kirk) Carson. Following graduation from Iowa City City High School in 1943, she attended the University of Iowa. On August 10, 1946, she was united in marriage to Sherman O. Files at the First Christian Church in Iowa City. For a number of years she worked at the Lark Restaurant in Tiffin before starting at the University of Iowa where she worked over 27 years before retiring. She was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Tiffin, also a fifty year member of the Jessamine Chapter of O.E.S. She enjoyed baking, cooking, and making candy, and was known to make the best cream puffs around! Her family includes her husband, Sherman; daughter, Victoria “Vickie” Slade and her husband, Vern of Tiffin; granddaughter, Tina Merta and her husband, Brian of Fairfax, IA; two great-grandsons, Jace and Teagan Merta; brothers, Kirk Carson of Lacrosse, WI, and Hugene “Skip” Carson and his wife, Fran of Davenport; several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and a great-great niece.
