Obituary of Daniel Knox Darrow
Daniel K. Darrow, 74, of Iowa City died Saturday, April 26, 2008, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 30, 2008, at Hope United Methodist Church in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 4 to 7pm Tuesday, followed by a Masonic Memorial Service, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Hope United Methodist Church or Iowa City Hospice. Online condolences may be sent for his family through the web @ www.gayandciha.com. Daniel Knox Darrow was born December 3, 1933, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa the son of Cleo and Matilda (Chadima) Darrow. Following graduation from McKinley High School in Cedar Rapids he attended Coe College. On December 18, 1954, he was united in marriage to Charlotte L. Mick in Cedar Rapids. He served in the United States Army from 1955-1957. He was stationed with Antiaircraft Artillery in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. Returning to Cedar Rapids, Daniel began a career with Hometown Dairy, which later became Roberts Dairy. He worked with them from 1959 until his retirement in 1994. In 1967 he and his family moved to Iowa City. He was a member of the Canopy Lodge #290 of A.F.& A.M., of Oxford, having served as Past Master; an active member of Hope United Methodist Church, and a former member of Old Capital Kiwanis Club. Dan was an avid supporter of the Iowa Hawkeyes, the Iowa City Babe Ruth League, the Iowa City Ducks Rugby Team, Hope UMC softball team, and any other sport in which his children and grandchildren participated. In the early 1950s he marched with the Cedar Rapids Cadet Drum and Bugle Corps. His family includes his wife, Charlotte; their children, Douglas Darrow (Pam) of Oxford, Diane Coffin (Allen) of Iowa City, Charles Chuck Darrow (Sarah McWilliams) of North Liberty, and Patrick Darrow (Penny) of Westmoreland, TN; nine grandchildren, Justin Wade (Rachel), Lael Neal (Kevin), Landon Wade (Tessa), Dylan Wade (Katie), Kayla Darrow, Karisa Darrow, Nathaniel Coffin, Kaitlyn Coffin, and Morgan Shock; three-great-grandchildren, sisters, Doreen Sue Currey (Bill) Cedar Rapids and Kathleen McCarty (Lee) Ankeny, IA. Dan was preceded in death by his parents, brother Tom, a daughter, and a grandson.
