Obituary of Naomi Bane
Naomi P. Bane, 98 of 1834 Hollywood Court, Iowa City died Thursday, February, 21, 2008, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. A gathering time for family and friends will be held from 4 to 7pm Monday at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Naomis memory. Online condolences may be sent for her family through the web @ www.gayandciha.com. Naomi Pearl Slater Bane was born July 13, 1909, in Lisbon, Iowa the daughter of Charles and Winfred (Heinsius) Slater. She graduated from Solon High School and went on to receive her teachers certificate from the University of Iowa. Prior to her marriage, she taught school in Johnson, Linn and Chickasaw Counties. On June 8, 1940, she married Newell Cecil Bane in Fredericksburg, Iowa. Newell died in August of 1964. After his death she worked at the University of Iowa in Burge Hall as a store clerk until her retirement in 1975. Naomi enjoyed the atmosphere of the students and faculty, developing many long lasting friends. During this time she also rented rooms at her home on Bowery Street to college students, again enjoying the long lasting relationships from this. Naomi loved her grandchildren and enjoyed her garden throughout the years. Her family includes her son, Daniel Bane and his wife, Barb of Iowa City; two grandchildren, Tom Bane and his fiancé Molly Cochran of Iowa City and Renee Glaspie and her husband, Steve of Lone Tree; two great-grandchildren, Sydney and Cheyenne. She was preceded in death by her brother, Reginald Red Slater, husband and parents. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service is caring for Naomis family and her services.
