Obituary of Genevieve Earle

Genevieve Mae Earle 82, of Iowa City, died Tuesday, February 19, at the University of Iowa Hospitals, from injuries sustained in a fall. Genevieve passed away peacefully with her family by her side. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am Saturday, February 23, at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm Friday at Gay and Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service. Entombment will be at Memory Gardens Mausoleum in Iowa City. Genevieve was born September 15, 1925 in Fergus Falls, Minnesota, the daughter of Arthur and Barbara Swanson. She married Wayne Earle March 9, 1945. She moved with her family to Iowa City in 1962 and worked at Bell Telephone for 23 years, retiring in 1983. Gen was a member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church and volunteered at the University Hospital. She loved spending time with family and friends and was a member of TOPS, the Red Hats and bridge clubs. She loved to golf with Wayne and her grandchildren and enjoyed the many hours spent relaxing at her daughter’s pool. Genevieve is survived by two sons, Scott Earle and his wife Janet, Brad Earle and his wife Chris, grandsons, Benjamin Earle, Greg Shank, Steve Shank and his wife Caren, and son-in-law Ron Shank, sisters Milly Day of Rockville, Maryland and Barbara Swanson of Fergus Falls, Minnesota. Genevieve was preceded in death by her husband Wayne in 1998, and her daughter Sandy in 2006. Genevieve will be dearly missed by her family, friends and everyone she touched in her life.
