Obituary of Jane A. Payne

Jane Payne, 84, formerly of 2423 Walden Rd, Iowa City died Thursday, January 31, 2008 at Pleasant View Home in Kalona, Iowa due to an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, February 9, 2008, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Jane Ann Roll was born July 20, 1923, in Charleston, West Virginia, the daughter of Edward and Jennie (Hilton) Roll. Following graduation from Ward-Belmont Finishing School in Nashville, TN she went on to graduate from West Virginia University in 1946 with her degree in Dietetics and Bio-Science. She married Martin Payne in 1947 at the Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD. Her career began as a research dietician at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in New York City. She became Food Editor for Family Circle Magazine in New York City. After leaving New York, she moved to ST. Petersburg, Florida where she was associated with Sun coast Hospital for over 28 years before retiring . She was a longtime member of Alpha XI Delta Sorority. Her family includes nephews, Warren Edwards and his wife, Denise of Des Moines; and W. Dan Roll of Point Pleasant, WV; great nieces and nephews, Jennifer McFarland and her husband, Allen of Ainsworth, IA, Jason Edwards of San Antonio, TX, and Danny Roll of Point Pleasant, WV. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, 2 brothers, and a sister-in-law. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service is caring for Jane’s family and her services.
