Obituary of Virginia M. Allaire
Virginia M. Allaire, 90, of Iowa City, a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother, died Friday, November 2, 2007. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, November 5, 2007, at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Iowa City with the Reverend Walter Helm officiating. Burial will be at the Oakland Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be after 9am Monday until services at the church. In lieu of flowers her family requests memorial donations be made in her memory to Iowa City Hospice @ 1025 Wade Street, Iowa City, IA 52240. Online condolences may be sent for her family through the web @ www.gayandciha.com. Virginia Marie McCann Allaire was born April 28, 1917, in Brooklyn, NY, the daughter of Neil and May Belle McCann. After graduating from Brooklyn College, Virginia did graduate work at Columbia University. She married James M. Allaire at St. Rose of Lima Church in Brooklyn. They celebrated sixty-five years of marriage last month. She lived a life filled with dignity, compassion and grace. Virginia taught Special Education in New York and California. After retirement she taught English as a Second Language. She and Jim lived in a number of states and Canada, and traveled throughout the world. Her family includes her husband, Jim; their children, Jim (Cheryl) Allaire of St. Cloud, MN; Virginia (David) Beals of Columbus, OH; Doug (Ann) Allaire of Iowa City, IA; and Neil (Lois) Allaire of Broomfield, CO; seven grandchildren, James A. Allaire, Jamie and Caitlin Beals, Jennifer (Stephen) Cooper, Emily (Jonathan) Taiber, Ryan and Kyle Allaire; great-grandchildren, Grace, Ethan, and Samuel Cooper, and Allaire, Gilmore, and Egan Taiber; Virginias sister, Sr. Mary Jogues McCann of Rockville Center, NY; and her brother, Joseph McCann of Hudson, FL. She was preceded in death by her parents, and brother, Fr. Kevin McCann. Virginia will be missed by all who knew her, especially her family.
