Obituary of James H. Bowman

James H. “Jim” Bowman, age 66 of rural North Liberty passed away peacefully Sunday evening, January 7, 2007, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. Memorial services will be held at 7pm Wednesday, January 10, 2007, at the First United Methodist Church in Iowa City with the Reverend Paul Akin officiating. There will be visitation at First United Methodist Church from 4-7pm, followed by a memorial service and time of fellowship. Sunday parking ordinance will be in effect for the streets around the church for parking. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Jim Bowman Memorial Fund which will be used to fund further development of the Tiffin Baseball Fields, support North Liberty Optimist Club, and support the First United Methodist Church in Iowa City. Jim has deeded his body to the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine; burial will be at Ridgewood Cemetery in North Liberty at a later date. Online condolences may be sent for his family through our website @www.gayandciha.com. James H. Bowman was born April 24, 1940, in Iowa City the son of John H.C. and Mary Ordra (Moore) Bowman. He attended Iowa City schools graduating from University High School in 1959. On October 6, 1963, he married Margaret M. Baker at the First United Methodist Church in Iowa City. Jim has farmed in the North Liberty area all of his life. He was a active member of the First United Methodist Church where he had served on it’s board, former member of the Clear Creek School Board, having served as president; charter member of the North Liberty Optimist Club, board member of South Slope Cooperative Communications Company, and a member of the Johnson County I-Club. Jim has bowled with the same group for the past 40 years. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan, but the true loves in his life were his family and the farm. His family includes his wife, Margaret; daughter, Martha Liddell and her husband, Troy of North Liberty; son, Curtis Bowman and his wife, Amy of North Liberty; four grandsons, Shawn and Aric Liddell and Jake and Travis Bowman; sisters, Dorothy Hummer and her husband, Fritz of Oakdale, CA; and Velma Koehler of Marion, IA and numerous nieces and nephews. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Robert J. Bowman. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service is caring for Jim’s family and his services.
