Condolences
Al and family;
I was so sad to read about Jan's passing in the Cedar Rapids Gazette. We returned from Arizona too late to attend her services. In reading everyone's condolences and statements about Jan, I couldn't add anything different. She was always smiling, a super nice person, kind and fun to talk to about your life adventures. The interesting thing, Al, is that you have been on my mind prior to learning about her death. I wondered how retirement was going for the 2 of you. I know that you would agree with me that that was God talking to me, after all, we are Presbyterians! I know you miss her so much but hope you can find comfort with your faith. Thinking of you! Take care, fellow JCO!

Jan will be so very missed. My mother (Jo Villhauer) and Jan worked together on ortho for a long time. I was also fortunate to work with Jan in the OBGyn clinic. She was a wonderful coworker and friend. I just talked with her a couple of months ago and really enjoyed our conversation. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.
Al and The Wicks Family:
Jan is in my thoughts and prayers. A few months after my Mother Grace passed away I stopped by to visit Al and Jan. Although it was January I placed flowers on my parent's graves and my Brother Jim's grave. I needed to find a way to deal with the grief of losing my Mom, and placing the flowers on the graves helped in the grieving process. It was after doing this that I visited Al and Jan. For the next few hours, we talked and shared our memories of my Mom. I was honored that they showed me such hospitality and understanding. With Jan it didn't matter what the season was as she always there for me and each member of my family. Not only did she know the right words to say to comfort me, but it was also with her quiet strength. I believe that my Mom and Jan were best friends because they shared a matter of fact everyday kind of faith. My siblings and I are so grateful that Jan was there at the moment of our Mom's passing. I am certain that my Mom was there for Jan to welcome her to her heavenly home. With deepest sympathy, Richard Olmsted
Our thoughts and prayers are with the Wicks family in remembrance of Jan. She was a close friend with Grace Olmsted, mother of Katie, John, James, Paul, and Richard. Jan was with Grace 5 years ago when she passed and called us to say that she was not doing well. Because of that kind gesture, we were able to say "goodbye" and "we love you" to her in her final moments. We will never forget that or the friend that Al has been over the years.
With love,
Paul and Pam
Al and family,
Thank you for sharing Jan with all of us. She was a special person who brought
so much positive energy to everything she touched, and there were so many things.
The community and her many friends are all better because of her involvement.
Please know our thoughts are with you.
Jan had a heart of gold...a dedicated and hard working Old Capital Kiwanis Club member...she devoted much of her life toward being there for others. Over the years she prepared 10s-of-thousands of pieces of plasticware for Camp Courageous. Her spirit and contagious smile will be dearly missed...our sympathy goes out to Al, along with family and friends.
