Erling A. Anderson

Condolences
I am so saddened to learn of Erling's passing. He was good friend, he was there for me the day my father passed,
taught me to appreciate and build fine butcher block tables, was a good bartender for our fledgling business, and had a gifted mind.
I lift a whiskey sour to you!
May Erling rest in peace- and rise in glory. At least in my Christian belief system.
I’d not seen Erling in ages, but fondly recall him as at once smart and kind. The van for The Little Shop was the next street over on Milwaukee’s east side, so it is wonderful that Erling sustained that in Iowa.
Heartwarming was Erling and wonderful classmate Linda Materna reuniting after many years! Condolences to Linda, family, and friends. Erling was a good man!
Erling was a dear friend to me beginning in graduate school. I admired his curiosity and immersion topics that captured in imagination. I will miss him always.
Surprised and saddened to learn this news. Erling was our University Heights neighbor for many years. Our sincere condolences to his family and friends
I had the opportunity to know and work with Erling for several decades from the mid 1980’s until 2000. Erling was an intelligent, gentle, respectful and caring soul. Our relationship extended beyond working together. We spent many hours together early in his academic career and throughout his career development at Iowa. He had many academic contributions working alongside Dr. Mark, Kim Johnson and many others. Erling was the diamond amongst the rough.
He genuinely cared for others before thinking of himself. Tenderly cared for his parents by bringing them to Iowa. Always looking for the best medical and opportunities for them. He was a skilled craftsman and uniquely creative.
I could go on with many stories of work travel to Brazil, writing grants, discussing politics, religion and the arts. His friendship was an extension to both my personal and professional career. My only regret is not being there for him during his difficult days at the end of life.
May Erling rest in peace with his parents, grandmother (he adored) and sister (who he lost way too early in life). May he now find peace.
Deepest condolences for your loss. Erling will be missed.
My sympathies on your family's loss. Many years ago Erling often came to my Custom Millworking business with projects for his many and sometimes challenging endeavors, ideas to explore or just to chat. I always enjoyed his company and inquisitive mind.
Again my sincerest sympathies.
Charles Miller.

Erling and I worked together for about 15 years in the Cardiovascular Research Center. As a scientist, colleague, and friend, he was talented, creative and fun with a delightful and irreverent sense of humor. I greatly admired his devotion to his parents. He gained from his parents an unusual gift for woodwork and home design and he transferred their Little Shop from Wisconsin to Iowa City. He had a deep love of Portugal whilch became his second home. I am saddened by his untimely death. Allyn Mark
