Obituary of Eileen Goplerud
Eileen Goplerud of Iowa City died May 12, 2018, at her home at Oaknoll Retirement Residence. She was 92.
Eileen was born March 1, 1926 in Forest City, Iowa, to Harry M. and Lillian Ehred. In 1947, she married Clifford Peter (Pete) Goplerud. Following Pete’s graduation from the University of Iowa College of Medicine, and various military assignments, Eileen and Pete made Iowa City their home for more than five decades.
Eileen was a 1948 graduate of the University of Iowa. Intelligent and inquiring, she loved to read and follow current events and politics, particularly wondering how those events would shape history. She enjoyed gardening and being outdoors in the sunshine. However, most important to Eileen were her love for and dedication to her family. Love, humility, and the importance of laughter guided her as mother to four and devoted wife and partner to Pete.
Eileen is survived by her children and their families: C. Peter, his wife Mariette Brodeur (Zoe and Ava); Harry, his wife Dr. Elizabeth Warner (Max and Dana); J. Barton, his wife Leslie Clemenson, (Beck, Morgan Potzner (Travis), Sydney Clemenson and Morgan O’Leary (Jordan)); and Penne and her husband Stephen Taylor. Eileen was pre-deceased in 2007 by her husband Pete, and in 2012 by her sister, Rosemary Nemmers.
Eileen’s family would like to thank Dr. M. Craig Champion and, again, Dr. Siroos Shirazi, as well as the caring staff of Oaknoll, especially those associated with Assisted Living and Short Stay Unit.
A celebration of Eileen’s life will be held at Oaknoll on Friday, June 8, 2018, beginning at 3 p.m. Visitation will be held at Gay & Ciha Funeral Home in Iowa City on Saturday, June 9, 2018 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., with a memorial service thereafter, beginning at 12:00 p.m. There will be a private burial. Flowers would be welcomed; however, in lieu of flowers, the family invites you to contribute to a charity of your choosing.
