Obituary of Dorothy M. Verry
~~Dorothy Mae (Madden) Verry. 85 lifelong resident of this area died Tuesday, August 29, 2017 at Lantern Park Specialty Care in Coralville.
There will be a time for family and friends to gather to remember Dorothy from 2 to 4 pm on Tuesday, September 5, 2017, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service with a memorial service beginning at 3pm, followed by a time of continued fellowship and light refreshments. Memorial donations can be made to Care Initiatives Hospice of Cedar Rapids or for a memorial fund to be established to support Dorothy favorite causes. Dorothy Mae Madden was born March 21, 1932 in Iowa City, the daughter of John L. and Lilly Mae (Curry) Madden. She grew up in the Tiffin area where she attended schools graduating from Tiffin High School. Dorothy lived a full life raising 4 children; enjoying time with her large extended family and good friends; cooking and baking excellent meals; finding super deals at garage sales and acquiring old cookbooks and testing good recipes. Dorothy also worked in a variety of roles over the years to include waitressing and home health aide.
Her family includes her children, Peggy Hatley (husband Bill) of Concrete, WA; daughter-in-law Brenda Verry of Clear Lake, IA; Julie Verry (husband Dean Davidson) of Omaha, NE; and Thomas Verry (wife Kamela) of Seaford, VA; grandchildren Shelby Pratt; Shanna Thomas; Will Hatley; John Verry; Chelsie Frelund; Micaela Verry; Gaelan Verry; Thomas (Jake) Verry; and Giuliana Verry; great-grandchildren Sean Pratt; Brandon Pratt; Eric Pratt; Rowan Pratt; Logan Frelund; Cullen Frelund and Hadie Mae Frelund; siblings, Maxine Tomash of Williamsburg, IA; Virginia Smith of Unionville, IA; and Margaret Swenka of Lewistown, MO. She was preceded in death by her parents, her son, Jeff Verry, and sisters, Ruth Carmona, JoAnne Brant Greer, Marlene Holderness, and Mary Ellen Madden; and brothers, George “Buzz” Madden, Lyle Madden, Wilbur Madden, and Donald Madden.
The family would like to give special thanks and acknowledgement to the staff of Lantern Park Specialty Care and in particular to the members of the Care Initiatives Hospice Team that gave Mom extra special care and comfort and kept her family informed and updated regularly.
