Obituary of Marian L. Ciha
Marian L. Ciha, 89, of Solon, died Saturday, January 21, 2017, at Solon Nursing and Care Center.
Memorial services will be held at 6:30 pm Wednesday, February 1, 2017, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City, where there will be a time of visitation from 4pm until the services. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Marian's memory to the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation or the Junior Diabetes Research Fund of Eastern Iowa. Marian Louise Woy was born in Butler, Pennsylvania, May 8, 1927, on Mother's Day to Nellie Roberts Woy Sullivan and Ernest Woy. She graduated from South Hills High School in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in 1945 and graduated from Shadyside Hospital School of Nursing, Pittsburgh in 1948. She attended the University of Pittsburgh. During the Korean Conflict Marian was a LTJG, serving in the Navy Nurse Corps. She married David W. Ciha and they moved to Iowa where they later divorced. They had five children. Over a period of fifty years Marian worked as a registered nurse at Shadyside Hospital, Pittsburgh; Atlantic City General Hospital, New Jersey; County Hospital, San Diego; Mercy Hospital, VA Medical Center, Iowa City. She worked at University of Iowa Hospitals, Department of Developmental Disabilities for 27 years until her retirement in 1987. Marian was an avid reader and loved classical music, especially opera.
Marian's family includes her children: Karen Ciha, Solon; Diane (Michael) Thomsen, Cedar Rapids; David J. (Laura) Ciha, San Diego; Dan (Colette Soults) Ciha, Coralville; Bill (Wendy Rasmussen) Ciha, Iowa City; grandchildren: Danielle Ciha, Carly (Alan) McMannus, Adam (Lisa) Ciha, Mackenzie (Marcus) Hootman, Megan Ciha, Jake (Kelly) Thomsen, Emily Ciha, Elec Ciha-Soults; James Patton, Andrew Patton, Thomas Patton and Joseph Patton; and 8 great-grandchildren, Macale, Bryer and Emersyn Hootman, Colt and Madison Thomsen, Samuel and Margaret McMannus, and Mia Ciha.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Sally Woy; her parents, Nellie and Daniel Sullivan, and Ernest Woy.
