Christina A. Searles, 43, of Iowa City, passed away Saturday December 10, 2016 after a long struggle with deteriorating health.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m., Sunday, December 18th at the Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City where visitation will be prior to the service, beginning at 12:30 p.m. Sunday.
Christina Ann Searles was born October 28, 1973 in Alton, Illinois; daughter of Narvatine Washpun and Albert Searles. She earned her GED through Kirkwood Community College and has resided in Iowa City most of her life. All who knew her would describe her as a happy down to earth person, with lots of attitude that had no problem speaking exactly what's on her mind. Christina (AKA: the Real Mother Goose) didn't have any children but was the proud God Mother of three children. A mother of many, she selflessly spent a lot of her life caring for the many children throughout her family. Always the go to person if someone needed a sitter, money, or their hair braided. The one with the least that gave the most. Christina would describe herself as a fastfood junkie, who loved listening to music, eating ice, going out to eat occasionally, and simply hanging out with family.
Christina is survived by a special friend Robert Tharrington, her siblings, Sandra Washpun (Vergil Beard), LeRoy Watley, Malcolm Johnson, Shameka Washpun, Amy Kirk and Tammy Kirk; aunts and uncles, JoAnn Searles, Vickie Williams, Larry Searles, Herb Searles, Troy Washpun, Earl Washpun, Eula Davis, Lillie Perry, Lillian Williams and DeNita Johnson. Her family also includes numerous extended family members including her cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Narvatine, her grandparents as well as several extended family members.
