Obituary of James F. Wonick

James F. “Jim” Wonick, 71, of Iowa City, died suddenly Wednesday, December 7, 2016, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. A gathering for family and friends to remember Jim will be held from 3 to 7 pm Tuesday, December 13, 21016, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. James Fran Wonick was born April 17, 1945, in Rome, Georgia the son of Elzear K, and Helen E. (Yordi) Wonick. The family moved to Iowa City when he was a child where Jim attended schools, graduating from City High School. He married Joan Carol Stallfort on May 15, 1965. For over 42 years Jim worked for the City of Iowa City at Oakland Cemetery where he retired as Supervisor. Jim enjoyed the outdoors, hated being inside, and was crazy passionate about racing. Going to race tracks all across the country. His family includes his son, James “Bryan” Wonick and his fiancée, Debbie Pugesok; granddaughters, Ashlin and Samantha Wonick; sister and her husband, Joyce and Allen Eakes. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Joan.
