Obituary of Timon Wesley Davison

Timon Wesley Davison (Tim) of Erwin, NC (formerly of West Liberty, IA) passed away suddenly on December 8, in Lillington, NC.

Tim was born in Washington, IA to Helen and Russell Davison on January 26, 1949.

 He graduated from the University of Iowa in 1971 with a BA in Economics with a minor in Religious Philosophy. In 1974 he earned a Master of Divinity from Saint Paul Seminary in Kansas City, MO. That same year he welcomed his beloved daughter Cherie, followed by son Matthew in 1976. Tim was married to Gail Davison on July 6th, 1984, in Memphis, TN

Tim worked for the Veterans Administration for 30 years where he retired as the Chief Chaplain for the VA Medical Center in Iowa City, IA. While working for the VA Medical Center, he also served 34 years for the Tennessee and Iowa Army National Guard where he retired as the STARC Chaplain Colonel at the Joint Forces Headquarters in Des Moines, IA. Tim was a member of the Military Chaplains Association for many years. He also helped create, manage, and lead along with his wife, Gail, the Chaplain Church, State, and Industry Foundation (CSIF) that has provided over $300,000 in scholarships to Chaplain candidates since its inception. Most recently Tim served as the interim Pastor for the Erwin Methodist Church.

Outside of Tim’s calling to serve God, veterans, and developing future military Chaplains; he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend to many. He enjoyed antique tractors, fixing things, working on machinery, playing many practical jokes, leading church youth groups, and going on mission trips with the many churches he was involved in throughout his life.

Tim is preceded in death by his daughter, Cherie, and parents Helen and Russell Davison.

Tim is survived by his wife Gail Davison (Erwin, NC), son and daughter-in-law Matt & Dawn Davison and their children, Caroline & Christian, (Fuquay Varina, NC), brother Rollin (Laurie) Davison and several nieces, nephews, and family members whom he loved dearly.

A memorial service will be held at the Downey Baptist Church, 2290 Baker Avenue, West Branch, IA   52358 on February 17, at 1:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital Headquarters, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN, 38105.
