Obituary of Mark Schumacher

Mark A. Schumacher, age 75, of Iowa City, passed away on Wednesday, July 22, 2026 at the Bird House-Hospice Home in Iowa City.

Born on August 9, 1950 in Sioux City, Iowa, Mark was the son of Forrest “Dean” and Laura (Whelchel) Schumacher.  He graduated from Iowa City High School in 1968 and later graduated from Muscatine Junior College.

Mark worked at On the Go Convenience Stores, for over 25 years.  When he wasn’t working, he enjoyed camping and boating in his younger years, tinkering with electronics and he always enjoyed road trips, mostly on the backroads.

Mark’s family includes his fiancé, Nicole Craven; his mother, Laura Schumacher; a brother, Don (Sara) Schumacher; a sister, Nancy (Mike) Abbott; a nephew, Jesse (Sarah) Klug; two nieces, Kinsey (Danny) Herrera and Kayla (Mick) O’Donnell; several great-nieces and nephews; and an aunt, Joann.

He was preceded in death by his father, Dean; his grandparents; and many aunts and uncles.

Per his wishes, no formal services are planned.  Mark’s family would like to thank the staff at the Bird House and Hospice of Iowa City for the compassionate care he received in his final days.
