Obituary of Frank Glenn Tranmer

Francis Glenn Tranmer (Frank), 77, passed away peacefully, surrounded by many loved ones, Thursday, October 5, 2017, at the Iowa City Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center.

Frank was born October 3, 1940, in North Dakota, and then his family moved to Cedar Rapids while he was young. He graduated from Immaculate Conception in 1958. Since that time, he resided in Spooner, WI, Mexico, Florida, Jamaica, and Portland, OR, working in the carpentry profession and simply enjoying life to its fullest. He was a charming, intelligent, witty man, who was an avid reader, backgammon and card player, world traveler and food aficionado. His greatest joys were being around and helping kids, listening to John Prine, Ry Cooder, and Bob Marley, and telling great stories of the road.

His family includes 8 children, Steve Tranmer of Pensacola, FL; Tammy Poeschl of Iowa City; Kim Tranmer of Sarasota, FL; Janel Tranmer of Toronto; Mark Cameron of Spooner, WI; Keith Cameron of Los Angeles, CA; Mike Bickham of Minneapolis, MN; and Jamar Black of Jamaica, 15 grandchildren, William, Michael, and Matthew Poeschl, Alex, Mitchell and Ciara Tranmer, Marly Scoffield, Ebony, Jordan, Holdan, India, London and Josiha Cameron, Sam and Max Bickham,and 4 great-grandchildren, Declan, Sienna, Elaina and Olivia. Frank also has 10 siblings, Kathie Smith (Terry) of Lincoln, NE; Michele Langer (Frank) of Scandia, MN; James Tranmer (Judy) of Iowa City; Gerri Tranmer of Madison, WI; Patrick Tranmer (Daniel) of Chicago, IL; Robert Tranmer (Laurie) of St. Paul, MN; Zachary Tranmer (Julie) of Spooner, WI; Theresa Tranmer of Iowa City; Mark Tranmer (Jeannie) of Burlington, IA; and John Tranmer of Dubuque. He touched many lives on his colorful journey, such as; Ronnie Matus (Aileen), Sherine Black, Judy Cameron, Charlie Morgan, Bob Casey (Connie), Dennis Peterson, Don Frantz, Ted Heald, Tom Poeschl, and many more. Frank was preceded in death by his loving parents, Margaret and Zack, and infant brother, Gerald. We'll miss him greatly, but believe he's soaring now, white beard and all, cruising on high.
