Obituary of DeWayne F. Adams

DeWayne F. “Dewey” Adams, 85 of Iowa City died Wednesday, September 27, 2017, at his home.

DeWayne was born October 22, 1931, in Traer, Iowa the son of Oran and Edith (Dewey) Adams.  He graduated from Maynard Iowa High School.  He began as a teenager with what became his life’s work in the grocery business, retiring from Fareway in Washington, Iowa as its manager at the age of fifty.  He then began his retirement moving to Branson, Missouri where he enjoyed fishing, gardening and taking annual trips to Hawaii and other vacation spots.  He also found his artistic gifts by drawing and painting, making many displays for his walls and special personalized Christmas gourds to share with his family on their Christmas trees. He also made beautiful Christmas cards that they received. These are gifts his family will cherish forever.  He loved spending time with family and friends who remember him for his upbeat personality and dry sense of humor. He loved to make people smile.

Dewey was united in marriage to Marilyn Hall with whom five children were born.  The family has grown over the years to include their daughters, Pam Dresser (Duane), Debra Adams (Ray McMenomy) and Nancy Adams (Jeff Drish); sons, Donald Adams (Diane) and Robert Adams; grandchildren, Craig Dresser (Manuela), Todd Dresser (Stacey), Ryan Adams (Andrea), Justin Adams (Taylor), Tiffinay Batey (Doyle), Adam Grubb (Lindsey), Mitch Grubb, Cherokee McMenomy Adams, Sydney McMenomy Adams, Brett Adams, Conner Adams and Megan Adams; great-grandchildren, Abby, Aiden and Zane Batey, Olivia Dresser, Alannah Adams, Jameson Adams, and two more due to arrive in November.  Dewey’s twin sister, Florene Kuennen also survives.  Dewey was preceded in death by his parents, former wife, Marilyn; and siblings, Donald Adams, George Adams, Juanita Nielsen, Donna Mae Knutson and Helen Gard.
